7 Essential Lessons for White Belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Mahamed Aly shares seven lessons every white belt should know to progress faster in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, starting with the most important one: consistency beats talent, and technique beats strength.
Watch on YouTube →What's Expected From Each Belt in BJJ?
Mahamed Aly breaks down the real path from white belt to black belt: what coaches expect at each rank, why blue belt is the first big test and purple belt can be the hardest stage mentally, and how brown and black belt are about maturity, teaching and efficiency. He also talks about team loyalty and switching gyms, what stripes really mean, and why consistency beats talent over the long run.

Yes, and it is not a separate class. Self-defense is built into every Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class at One Way. You learn to control distance, stay calm under pressure, defend yourself on the ground and escape from a bigger, stronger opponent, practising against a live partner in every session rather than in a one-off seminar. Students who also want the standing side of self-defense usually add Muay Thai or Boxing.
