Who are the coaches at One Way Martial Arts?

One Way Martial Arts in Alexandria, VA has seven coaches. Mahamed Aly and Patrick Almeida are the co-owners and both teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Giovanna Amaral and Malachi Edmond coach BJJ for kids and adults. Jansey Jones Silva leads all striking. Joshua Wong coaches Boxing and Wrestling. Nazar Mazurkevych runs Strength and Conditioning at One Way Performance.

Is there a female coach at One Way Martial Arts?

Yes. Giovanna Amaral is on the mat Monday through Saturday coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for both kids and adults. She is an IBJJF Pan American Champion, an American National Champion and a multiple-time IBJJF World medalist, and she leads One Way's girls' program with small-group classes and extra attention for every young female athlete.

Who teaches the kids classes?

Kids BJJ, from Tumblers at age 2 through Teens at age 14, is coached by Giovanna Amaral and Malachi Edmond. Kids and Teens Striking, for ages 7 and up, is coached by Jansey Jones Silva.

Do the owners actually teach classes?

Yes. Both co-owners are on the mat. Mahamed Aly is the head coach and a 4x IBJJF World Champion, and Patrick Almeida is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with more than 15 years of experience. You will train with them, not just meet them at the front desk.

Which coach will I train with as a complete beginner?

Whoever is leading the class you book. Every coach at One Way teaches beginners, and nobody is put in a class they are not ready for. On your first visit a coach walks you through the warm-up, pairs you with an experienced partner and checks on you throughout the session.

Who coaches the competition team?

Malachi Edmond leads the competition team for kids and adults, alongside head coach Mahamed Aly. Competition class is invitation only. Every other class on the schedule is open to all members.
