BJJ Classes Near Burke VA
Short answer: One Way Martial Arts is about 10 miles from Burke, usually a 14 to 30 minute drive off-peak by Burke Lake Road, Braddock Road and I-495 South. We teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi) for adults and kids at 5416 Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria, led by 4x IBJJF World Champion Mahamed Aly, with free on-site parking.
Getting here from Burke
From the Burke Lake Road and Old Keene Mill Road area, the fastest route on Google Maps follows Burke Lake Road to Braddock Road in Kings Park, then I-495 South to the Eisenhower Avenue exit. That is about 10.1 miles. On a weekend morning it usually takes 14 to 26 minutes; on a weekday late morning, 14 to 30 minutes. Old Keene Mill Road through Springfield is the same distance and usually a few minutes slower.
From Burke Centre, near the VRE station, plan on about 11.4 miles and 18 to 28 minutes off-peak, also on I-495 South. Burke has no Metro station, and the VRE Manassas Line does not stop at Van Dorn Street, so driving is the practical way in. Parking at the academy is free and on site.
Adult classes that fit a Burke schedule
Weekday rush hour is the slowest time on the Beltway. These classes keep you out of most of it:
- Before work: BJJ at 6:00 AM Monday to Friday (Fundamentals on Monday and Friday, All Levels on Tuesday and Thursday, No-Gi Fundamentals on Wednesday)
- Lunchtime, if you work from home: BJJ or No-Gi at 12:00 PM Monday to Friday
- Later evening: BJJ All Levels at 7:00 PM and No-Gi All Levels at 8:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday

Kids BJJ for Burke families
Kids BJJ runs in four age groups: Tumblers (2–3), Tots (4–6), Kids (7–10) and Teens (11–14). If a weekday after-school drive down the Beltway is too much, Saturday makes one easy trip: Tumblers at 9:30 AM, Kids and Teens No-Gi (ages 4–14) at 10:00 AM, then BJJ All Levels for adults at 11:00 AM.
